Blasting

The blasting process uses a suitable abrasive to clean, roughen or otherwise modify the desired surface area of the object (product) before its final treatment, such as painting, metallization, etc.

It is mainly used for metals, metal products, steel structures, and possibly other materials (our company specializes only in surface treatment of metals).

A metal soft granulate is used as an abrasive, but in the case of specific requirements it is possible to use non-metallic abrasives, or conversely metal sharp-edged abrasives with greater hardness. The abrasive is selected according to the material of the blasted objects.

Attention! Deformation (bending) of thin or perforated sheet metal (0.5 – 1 mm) may occur during blasting due to the violation of the surface structure and the release of internal stress. However, these parts can also be blasted with another technology without any problems, namely by a trained and experienced operator with a pneumatic pressure system using a finer abrasive at a lower pressure.

Blasting equipment

The stationary blasting equipment used by our company (blasting box – blaster) is based on the mechanical throwing of abrasive particles by throwing wheels. The objects (products) are suspended in the jetting box on the hooks of the electric hoist, which rotate during the cycle and at the same time move horizontally in front of the throwing wheels. Compressed air is supplied to the jet by a pressure chamber. Air from the nozzle is filtered by an ecological filter with a fan. The abrasive used is mostly recycled. The entire blasting process is automatic.

Specifications:

  • maximum workpiece diameter: 2500 mm
  • maximum workpiece height: 3500 mm
  • maximum hook capacity: 1600 kg

Surface treatment by blasting is recommended

  • for the purpose of removing corrosion, or for the reason of the visual effect (unification of surface roughness before painting, metallization (polishing), etc.), when it is necessary to remove all dirt, grease and unevenness,
  • removal of scale and rust before painting, removal of old coatings, cleaning of welds for defectoscopic measurements, cleaning after cutting, cleaning of metals before and after soldering,
  • strengthening of stressed surfaces (e.g. gears), surface treatment for galvanizing,
  • cleaning of castings in the foundry industry, matting and satin finishing of precious metals (stainless steel, brass),
  • treatment of aluminum before anodizing,
  • renovation of old things – complete cleaning during the reconstruction of vintage cars, decarbonization of car parts,
  • blasting is one of the most effective and cheapest methods of finishing materials
